doing plugs and wires in a few weeks, got the Motorcraft Platinums
and set of 8.5 Jacobs

What is the plug gap for a 2000 SOHC ?

Also Jacobs says that due to their " extra efficent energy transfer "
I could gap my plugs 0.005" wider for a more efficent spark.

What do you all know about this ?

Yeah, a Jacobs rep told me that too, about 3 years ago when I was getting my wires. I gapped the plugs out to .065 at one point (stock for my engine is .054") . I didn't notice much difference. I may try it again sometime though.

All of the 4liter OHV's, the 4liter SOHC's, and the 5liter V8 share the same gap. Its .054

is there a benefit to gapping wider or tighter... i gapped mine at the recommended .54 even though the box of plugs said that gapping was not necessary

the few times i checked the gap it has always been correct in the box,,
now i just buy the plugs and install them usually....

Most plugs made today say that on the box because most manufacturers gap the plugs at the factory. Saves you the trouble, I guess.

Well, there is some debate on plug gap...many people claim overgapping will cause an occasional miss, unless you have built ignition/wires to go with it. Others claim it wont do a thing.

Racers have done something called, "side-gapping" where a portion of the business-end of the plug is filed off, leaving a much wider gap. (This tends to foul the plug quickly and isn't recommended for a daily driver.)

I wouldn't under-gap, I've never heard of any advantage to that.
