I am searching for a source for a new set of Motorcraft plug wires for my '98 Explorer. The dealer wants $206...yes $206 for new set. I would like to stay with OEM, if within reason. Thanks for any advise... oh yea, its a V8

$206 for a set of plug wires!?!?!!?!?!?! DAMN. I would be looking for a new dealer.

No offense but why do you want to stay with OEM. You will get better results from an after market performance wire. I am running Taylor Spiro-Pro on my 97 5.0. The set cost me right around $70 from Summit Racing

$206 seems just a bit steep to me. I checked at truckperformance.com and they have some aftermarket wires for $50 or less. I was gonna change my wires soon and this is the option I'm most likely going with.

Hey old#7 I noticed you live in West Des Moines. My is from Des Moines. Her dad still lives there. She grew up right behind Georges Chili King.

Hi Rec, I would suggest spending your money on a good set of aftermarket wires - whether it be Jacobs or Splitfires or any other manufacturer which carries a lifetime warranty. I have Splitfires in mine. When a reached 140K, I wrote Splitfire and they just sent me a new replacement set at no cost. That's what I call a company which stands behind its product. Now the initial cost may have been more than a standard set of wires, but they have already paid for themselves. I'm currently at 180K and still running strong! Hope this helps.

I'm looking at getting them for my 96 X. Do you still have the Splitfire wires in you X? How well of an aftermarket wires are they? Did they make any difference in power from what you could tell?

I run taylor wires in my grand prix GTP and I just got a set for my explorer. Wires will not make a noticeable power diference. I buy good aftermarket wires for the durability.

I also went with the Taylor Spiro pro wires. Even came in red,LOL. I am OEM fanatic so I understand where you are coming from. But in this case, I think you are better off and get better plug wires from places like summit racing.

Plugs and wires do not add performance, they are to replace what was lost over the time and mileage of the vehicle.
