I have a stock 2001 X Sport 2wd w/110k miles. No real running issues until recently. Within the last couple of weeks the idle has dropped from around 750 to 550 but still seemed to run OK. Yesterday when I went to start it would barely run and would not accelerate. After about 5 tries it seemed to be better (not normal) and when I put my foot on the brake to put it in reverse the pedal pulsed a few times and the ABS light came on. I drove the truck and it ran poorly for a while and then cleared up. It seemed to be OK except for dying once at a stop and still idling at around 550. The ABS light is still on. I tried the battery disconnect hoping to reset but no luck. Could the poor start up be related to the ABS light being on and the pulsating pedal? Or just a coincidence?

Disconnecting the battery will clear the codes. Don't disconnect the battery. Find out what the codes are. Check the fuel pressure, charging system, and replace the fuel filter. It's possible that you might have bad gasoline or moisture in it. The ABS problem is unrelated to the engine controls unless there is a problem with the charging system. You need 14.7 volts on an average for it to work properly.
