Allways thought I heard a pop sound but very mild. Yesterday the girlfriend borrowed the ex and after you hit the brakes andstart to roll then the pop sound. I dont notice it going from a complete stop just sort of a slow and go. Looked underneath and did not see any thing that looked to have been moving or shifting. The radius arm bushings were changed befoe I purchaced it, the rivets were replaced in the crossmember with bolts. Everything looks fine and can find nothing to cause the noise so any ideas would be great! Also non related in the 2nd gen section I posted a question of if you could put a 1st gen rear hatch on a 2ndf possible let me know.

calipers on a firstgen are held in place by slide pins..

however i'd recommend taking a look at these, and also make sure your wheel bearing locknut(s) are torqued correctly while you're in there..

not sure about the 2nd gen hatch, i've never seen one that up close and personal

You may also check for the presence or absence of anti-rattle clips on your outer brake pad. This is a really thin piece of metal that clips on the pad where the end of it meets the caliper/knuckle and it's supposed to act like a little spring to take of the slack between those components so the pad won't rattle around. These things are poorly designed and I never had one last more than a few miles befor the brakes would start clunking again. I just decided to live with the occasional clunk from the brakes.

Definately check everything else out to make sure you don't have a safety issue with other components, but don't be surprised if this is the problem.

Again with these anti-rattle clips? You guys must buy strange ass pads. The pads I use have these built into the pads.

I had this happen a few time on the old brakes I had. It was caused by the caliper releasing the pads from the rotors. Greasing the slid pins cured it.

And the hatch from up to a 97 will bolt in, but you need to re-wire the 3rd brake light & wiper motor.
