for a few months now, the rear end has been making a popping sound, it also vibrates the whole truck. It only does this after sitting for awhile. But sometimes it does not. it only pops for a few miles then quits. It is not coming from my transfer case. I took it to the nearest Ford dealership and they said that I needed axle seals and swaybar endlinks. I got a high estimate, so i took it to another trusted shop and they put in the seals and stated that the endlinks looked new. I wrecked it in Oct 1999 and ford put in a new axle and all that stuff. It is still popping. It only pops when I am not pressing the gas. And if I was to put it in 4x4 low and drive for a few minutes it seems to quit popping.

can anyone help me fix this.

thanks

Do you have a limited slip rear end?
Ask the shop that did your seals if they happened to notice anything odd when they had your differential cover off to drain the oil.
Also, ask them how the parking brake shoes looked. Where they covered in gear oil and need replacing?

If that gets you nowhere, have your universal joints checked.
