Any key differences in the BTL and BL? BTL= SPL and BL= more for sq right?
And the cone differences of course
Not necessarily, they are both great subs and yes the BTL has the capabilty to get louder than the BL but with out any electrical upgrades and a strict budget on amp, the BL is going to give you the same result at a better cost to you and your parents.

would you rather under power a BTL or over power a BL? I would rather not damage anything?

nothing will be damaged as long as everything is set up safely.

the BTL is spl based...the BL is a little lower power handling and more of loud daily beater type...The BL will be more efficient on the power avaliable.

on your budget and the setup you have mentioned you are not going to over power the BL

I was thinking about it in school, and I am going to upgrade my alternator to like a 240 amp h.o alt
I will be upgrading that before headunit or extra speakers. Is that a good decision?

and if you guys did not have a budget, and you were to choose one of the two, which one would you choose?
It's tough I really want the BTL but the BL isn't sounding so bad...

I don't understand because you said you don't want to spend a lot of money...but a new quality HO alternator is going to be expensive.

Also I would suggest changing to the BL and upgrading the source unit and speakers...seriously you have no idea how crappy it is going to sound...you might has well disconnect the speakers and listen to bass because that is all its going to be pretty much.

x2

Get you a nice set of comps for your front stage and than a decent pair of coaxils for your rear and a nice amp for the comps or else it will sound terrible.. And nothing is goin to sound real good on a factory headunit.. I would say that is the first upgrade

:(
I don't know if I can even stop the order. My parents won't tell me if they ordered it or not yet because they want it to be a surprise.
I'm going to be getting money soon. I have the batteries in my garage to be installed. I don't see a point in upgrading headunit before subs or speakers because i would only use it to control that stuff.
What would you guys say would be good for some component speakers? (and amp)

I basically just want some loud bass, of course I'll turn it down when it completly over rules the speakers.
I know it sounds dumb, but can't I always just turn the gains and stuff down on the amp and adjust it through my stock head unit?

Can we try to make this work before switching to a different sub?

How did this work out? Ever get the sub in? As far as components, CDT, Diamond, and Alpine make some budget stuff, and the amp would depend on which components.

Well I didn't get the sub lol. It is still shipping, but I don't have a problem with that. Components will come later after an alternator upgrade. I got my hands on a nice electrical item that is going for over 900$ on ebay, so I should be able to add a few things with that cash. I'm going to get the box specs from aznboi when I can pm him. I gotta add the batteries in, the wire, and take out my third row before I build the box.

Hmm...batteries and everything else can be designed around the enclosure.
