Im interested in this mod because i have one tire in the back that is almost tearing apart...heheh i dont know why  .i just want to have the two of them tearing apart in a cloud of smoke!!. Does any v6 explorer have a posi diff i can swap??? i will appreciate your help

any explorer diff will work. V8s and V6s use the same rear end. find a limited slip with either 3:73s or 4:10s and you'll be set.

You may want to consider using a Torsen limited slip differential. It is a gear driven unit. It is better than the clutch type Track-Loc.

posi diff problems

As I Posted in this thread: http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=158437
I wanted a posi diff so both tires will spin in a burnout...i was told also that if i put a 3.73 diff, i would get high RPM's in speeds of 60+ mph...it's this true??
i will aprecciate your help

if that isn't a problem, please tell me where i can find a limited slip for my model or whatever 00 XLS V6

Yes your rpms will be higher with a 3.73. That is how it works, the gearing is lower...Therefore you get faster acceleration but the rpms will be higher at freeway speeds and worse gas mileage. For me cruising at 65 mph I hit around 2600 rpms with my 3.73 and my other ex with a 3.27 it just about 2000 rpms.

I'm just not sure a 4.0 can do a proper burnout.

Note that putting in a 3.73 gear set is not cheap. It would be a cheaper route if you found a junk yard Explorer axle with 3.73's (or higher) already in it.

As for the "limited slip" - simplest thing to do would be to throw in a "lunch box" type locker. Do a search if you're not familar with this locker type. There are many lunch box lockers on the market for your axle (often called the Ford-8.8 axle) ranging usually between just a little over $200 to a little over $400 USD.

PS: I've combind your two threads - they are related. No need to start a new thread if your new thread is just an extension of your old one.

another PS: it appears that your not too familiar with your vehicle. I would suggest reading a little bit about your vehicle first before you attempt any swap or axle work. Pick up a repair manual (Chiltons, Haynes, etc..), that'll give you a good idea of exactly what makes an Explorer an Explorer, and also it serves as a good reference on other things (not just axle or gear related)

thanks a lot guys i will be posting back again in summer if i did an axle modifications....im plannning on some things like some angel eyes projector fog lights i saw in ebay....im also planning to buy the clear headlights and something else...

Thanks for your help guys!
