2014 Explorer Sport
Just purchased a 2014 Sport. Dealer provided a AutoCheck report, everything seemed to check out. I decided to do a Carfax report, should have done it prior. It states that engine was pulled to make repairs and ended up being replaced with 3500 miles on it. All work done at Ford dealership under warranty. Should I be worried???? should I ditch this thing and find another one????

Did you buy it at a Ford dealer? If so did it come with an extended warranty? If not a Ford dealer was it a major dealer that you could show them it was replaced and you would like an extended warranty at a deep discounted price for the engine. If not then I still would not worry about it, because the work was done at a certified dealer and Ford has a 50,000 mile 5 year warranty on engine and drive train. You might stop by a Ford dealer and see if the original owner had an extended warranty on the engine because of the repair it might still be good. Other then that sit back and relax, what you did not say was how many miles are on it now?

It has 35,200 on it now. I purchased car from CarMax. I did buy an extended warranty. I have to take it for an oil change only because I’m **** and I don’t know when the last one was done. I’ll ask about the extended warranty through ford. I wonder if it transfers owners?

Welcome to the Forum Anthony. I wouldn't be overly concerned. With a Ford dealership doing the work, presumably under warranty, the original 5 year 60K mile powertrain warranty would still be in effect. If you have any concerns on it or any other possible issue you could still get a Ford ESP Warranty although it would likely have to the one for a previously owned (used) vehicle once the factory 3yr/36k mile warranty runs out and which would be a little more costly. Extended warranties can be transferred for a fee but I'm not sure if it would apply in your situation. A Ford dealer may be able to see if it had one.

The chances of two bad Ford motors is fairly unlikely. If a new motor was put in, as opposed to fixing the original, I’d be fine with it.

I wouldn't worry about it. That said I'd ask a local Ford dealership to pull an OASIS for me to show the scope of the work--Carfax information is a bit vague.

That said if it was a new engine, there may have been a manufacturing flaw that grenaded it, so Ford did the right thing and shotgunned a new engine into it. Rare, but it happens.

So long as your warranty covers engine components I wouldn't worry about it especially. Let CarMax deal with it if it grenades again! (But highly unlikely.)

Enjoy the ride.

Thanks for all your feed back. Everyone had very valid point. I feel a lot better.

Just my 2 cents, but, I don't think there's enough info to say whether you should worry or not. A blown motor at 3,500 miles is certainly not normal. I would want to see the full vehicle repair history (oasis should help, but you may need to contact the dealer that did the work to get copies of the actual ROs - may or may not get them). Once you know what caused the problem and what repairs were actually performed, and how many times it may have gone back for follow-up repairs or other repairs, you will be in a better position to know whether you should worry or not.

If you can get the previous owners contact info from an old RO or can track it down elsewhere, it may be worthwhile to try and contact them to see what they can tell you about the vehicle.
