I have a 97 Mountaineer. All the door locks work, except for the drivers doors lock switch. I replaced the switch, but it still doesn't work. I researched on the forum, but I am still a little confused. My problem seems to be in the wiring harness?? Any feedback is appreciated.

If only one door lock doesn't work I would suspect that door's actuator.

The left front door does lock and unlock with the remote, or with any switch, other than the left front door switch.

Well, you've ruled out

A - actuator ( works from remote )

B - Switch ( replaced with new )

So, either it's in the harness ( a short ) or your X just doesn't want to let the driver out ....

my 2 cents ...

bad wiring

I had the identical problem....the problem was in the wiring connections in that black barrel between the door and the front quarter pannel. You can see it when the door is open. If you open it up I am willing to bet that you have a bad connection in there.
I responded to a couple queries about the same topic and the guys find the problem asap.

and V

I believe that both these guys resolved their problems.

good luck

You nailed it! I found I didn't have power at the switch, so I traced the wires back, until... I got to the 'barrel' and found the two wires that didn't have power at the switch were broken inside. So I soldered in some new wire, put on a little heat shink and sealed up the barrel. Works good now. Thanks for the help.

glad i could help....

Glad I couldhelp out...I have to tackle the same problem again...it would have been nice if the ford engineers used a thicker guage wire then most of these problems would never have happened!!!!

shelby,

I am having the same problem with my '97. What exactly is the barrel that you are talking about? Should I start with the big black piece that hooks up underneath my switch where all of the wires for the windows etc.? then work my way through that harness? What do you suggest?
Thanks

Don't ya just love how things work out here ?

This place is so cool

barrel location

Take a look between the door and front quarter panel, half way down. The two pieces are held together by a zap strap...chances are you will find a broken wire in there....the barrel is where all/most of the wires heading into the door and back etc are routed from the front of the vehicle (very layman's terms...)
good luck
