Power door locks-98X

Wife's 98 XLT will lock her in the vehicle. Other locks function perfectly; even the key will not open the driver's door from the outside. Apart from the obvious safety hazard, What could be causing this. So far I have not popped the door panel, but is an option. Any ideas?

The little spring inside your latch assembly broke. Very common problem. Mine is broken right now... has been for months. I bought a new latch from fordpartsnetwork.com for 20 something dollars but I'm too scared to try putting it in. When you take your door panel off and look at the latch you will understand why. I will eventually take it to the dealer to have them install it for me. I would recommend buying the part from fordpartsnetwork.com because my dealer wanted over 100 just for the part.
