Power Door Locks: work with door open only

I have read around a lot of threads trying to find something similar and can't, so here is my question.
Driver door power locks only work with the door open. Will not work with the door closed (they will only click). It took a while just to figure this out, not to make myself seem incompetent.

All doors do work properly from the key fob, does not matter if the door is open or closed.

More information: when ever the driver door is closed all 4 doors lock.

I am hoping all these symptoms are related, any ideas? It seems it should be programming/electrical since they all work properly with the door open or from the key fob.

Somewhere around here there is a thread on how to check and repair the wiring that goes between the door and the body. It is in a black rubber boot. Over time the wires break and cause all kinds of problems. I would venture to guess that if you opened up this boot you would see some damaged wires.

I sorta have a similar issue but in my case, my doors will unlock but NOT lock. doesn't matter if I use my key fob, the door buttons or what.

I have checked the wires in the boot, none are broken.

I can tell you though that I do get a click when I press the LOCK button but not from the door locks, from the control module. The noise appears to be coming from my passenger side back end of the SUV. The sound is like a relay clicking on and off which tells me the signal is getting FROM my door button or keyfob TO the control module but not from that unit to the door actuators.

The dealer tells me I need a new control module which is like $400 dollars plus the cost of programing it.

Thanks for the info, I will check out some wiring and see if I can figure anything out. I'll keep you updated...
