Hey Gang - It's my first post and it's an odd one. I have a '96 Explorer XLT 4.0L V5 w/136K. For the most part it has been a good vehicle. Went to get in it yesterday at lunch and the power locks were cycling like crazy. Got it to the shop I use and it had no codes and the battery was in good shape. Ended up just pulling the fuse from the power block to get it too stop. Now I have the 4 WD and 4WD Low dash indicators blinking on/off 6 times at 2 minute intervals. Hoping to give the shop some ideas so I don't spend $$$ on diagnostic time.

Any thoughts other than Merlin the troll??

I know that when I unplug my electrical connector at my transfer case I get the two 4WD lights blinking in the same pattern you described. It seems odd that power locks and the transfer case would be on the same fuse. Good luck.

If you have push button entry and/or a keychain remote, the Remote Anti-theft Personality module printed circuit board in the receiver has a couple relays on it, one or both of them may be stuck closed. Those relays activate the main lock relays, and one or both of them may be stuck closed. The RAP module is located behind the panel on the driver's side behind the rear seats above/behind the wheel well. You may be able to see it if you open the jack storage location. I would suggest: pull the panel off and bang on the module a time or 2; that may free the stuck relay. The main relays are in the same place in auxiliary relay box #4. Good luck.
