I took my console apart today for a good cleaning and to troubleshoot the cigar lighter not working. Turns out there are two leads under there; one to the cigar lighter and the other apparently intended for the smoker's package that was not installed in this vehicle.

Turns out the cigar lighter just had a blown fuse that I had previously overlooked. But I had attempted to order a new lighter assembly just in case I had to replace it. I was sent the wrong part and instead received this one from the seller. Apparently these are standard on newer Explorers?

So I got to thinking; could I use the second lead to a lighter that isn't installed and install the other power plug I got?

Sure you could. 12 Volts is 12 Volts..

All you have to do is grind a small tab on the smokers package harness and you can use it for an outlet. I installed an outlet on the passenger side of the console using the extra harness already installed.

What you received is a 110 volt AC outlet only. Not inverter.. So, no, you can not use the 12 volt DC harness on the 110 volt AC outlet.

Thanks. I wasn't sure if there was an inverter included in that assembly or not.
