What would cause this to come on, resulting in a loss of power steering? It happened to me twice. With some research, I've found that a few are having the problem. My question is, is it just a glitch in the computer, or what other factors could cause this to come on?
Would aftermarket wheels cause this (22" edge sport wheels with 265/40/22 tires)??? I wouldn't think so but I'm no expert. Thoughts?

The type of wheels should not affect your steering at all.

The type of steering the new Explorer has is electronically assisted so it's not your regular powered by the engine power steering and with electronics, things mess up sometimes.

This is a safety hazard and you best take it to the dealer ASAP to get it fixed, replaced.

Welcome to the Forum lihtning. :wavey: I'm going to take a wild guess and assume you are not talking about your '06 EB.
I agree with 1995E that this is something that you should have addressed by your service department ASAP.

Just to add....it's a 2012 base Explorer and I've put 2011 Edhe Sport wheels on it. I realize the power steering fault could pop up at any time. I took it to the dealer and they tried twice to figure out the problem but they said they couldn't solve the issue. They also had Ford Service on the phone electronically at the time as well??? I have it now with no problems, and I have put the stock wheels back on for now. We'll see if it happens again. My main question was if those wheels could cause the fault code?

Dealer checked the code twice, tried to duplicate the problem, couldn't duplicate it, and now it's been fine for the last week?? Computer glitch maybe??
