Over the past 2 days I have noticed that my steering is a little sluggish. When I make a sharp turn either to the left or to the right, the wheel has a tendancy to want to stay put. It doesn't turn back on its own like it use to. Dead Link RemovedYou have to help it along. The power steering pump is not making any noise and the fluid is right where it should be. The front end is tight.

The Xplorer is a 1991 with 160,000 km. I was wondering if anyone else had experienced this before the pump went. Appreciate your input on the matter. Dead Link Removed

I had a similar problem once but it was on an older Bronco. It could be the same thing though. What happened was that the u-joints on the front axles were starting to seize up and they would almost stay locked at times in one position. This would happen on the road 2wd (almost put me in the ditch). What I did for a quick fix was put it in 4wd offroad and drove around awhile to free up the u-joints. This was just to get me by until I had time to do the repair properly. Just a thought. I hope this helped, Good luck.
