Neither one of my rear windows will roll down either from the driver's seat or when I reach back and push the button on each door. In the past, one would work and the other wouldn't, then the next day the one that was working wouldn't work and the other one would. As of right now neither of them will roll up or down. I have a 2004 XLT with 74K miles.

Anyone heard fo this happening? Both motors wouldn't be bad at the same time, right?

I've had that problem. It seems like when it gets hot, my windows tend to act up. It was really hot in my truck one day and none of my windows would roll down. I don't know, but I have window issues too. I think it is more of a wiring issue.

Sounds Likew motors to me try to bang (punch by motor) on door panel and hold button down to see if window goes down.

Have you checked for broken/damaged wires in the boot between the driver's door and the body? A common problem on the 3 Gens. I believe all the wiring for the windows go through the master switch.

Here is a great thread for removing the door panel, thanks to borland for the awesome write-up: http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=249253

Here is a great link for troubleshooting the power windows, it's for the '02 but should work for your '04, thanks to theofam for this great link Dead Link Removed

Hope this helps. - Rondo

I recently had the same issue with my 05, no rear windows. No breaks in any wires, checked ALL doors. Took the drivers door switch out, to remove to check for breaks in the wires, replaced and it all worked fine. I am thinking the drivers door switch is failing.
