I've had my 2006 LTD since early December. Since then I had only had one occasion to raise the seats, until today. Back then they both worked perfectly fine, both up and down.

Today I went to raise them. The left swung right up. When I hit the switch on the right seat, you could hear/feel the motor had engaged but did not move, nor did the motor keep running. I went around and grabbed the seat back while my wife hit the switch. With my assist the seat rose smoothly all the way up but it seemed tight the whole while. I did not quit assisting until it was all the way and I haven't tried to lower it yet to see how it would react.

I have seen plenty here about striped gears but nothing about this condition. Any ideas? Is it possibly a lubrication issue?

Surely I am not the only one with this issue?

Sorry, can't offer any help yet.
I just go ballistic when I see my kids trying to raise the rear seats with my tool box on top of them just to try.
Luckily, they still work fine.

I wonder if you need some grease over there. It sounds like my rear wiper situation, it would move if I helped with my hand. I cleaned it and greased it and that was it.

Yeah, I read about the rear wiper motor shaft. I squirted a little dry lube down the shaft from the outside. I didn't have an issue with it but just in case.

On the rear seat, I just went out and lowered it. Unlike the raising, the other day, it went right down. I then commanded it to rise up and it did in seeming good fashion. So I don't know why the problem the other day. Maybe it just stayed in one position too long??

I'll have to look closely and see if there is any place to apply any lubricant.
