hello,
I have the premium hu in my 99 xlt, and I can play about 2 1/2 to 3 cd's before the message "cd-hot" is displayed on the HU...I am thoroughly furious about this situation...WTF could be wrong? bad heat sink? is this a common problem? I used to think that it was because of the fact that I had the stereo turned up loud (only 2 choices loud, and off) and I had the heater on too....and I figured that when summer rolled around,,no problems..WRONG! It is spring and I have the a/c on and I still have the cd-hot message....I am now thinking that my HU is a piece of crap.....it's funny when you pay 15,000 dollars for a car and the stereo sux...(not that funny) but anyways has anyone else experienced that same foolishness and can I change to the JBL audiophile system with little effort....thanks,
Murph

If ford won't help you out and you want to keep the radio try putting a 12v fan behind the radio to cool it.

Or, this only helps when you run your AC, you can cut slots in the ducts right above it, so when you're running your AC some cold air will blow down on your HU. :D

Try telling your ford dealer about the problem and they should have some suggestions because it is probably a defect that ford should fix for you. If not than try the other stuff they said.
