I just got my factory cassette (yuck!) replaced by a Pioneer (DEH-P3500) last night. The installer said i had an Amplified Premier system. He said Ford did it for a couple of years. He also said that the Amp is in the rear cargo area.
I thought only the Limited Explorers had the premium sound systems? Plus I thought they had a Sub in the rear? Mine just has the little opening with a small cargo net over the hole where the sub goes.
Mine is only a 1996 XL, so there's nothing special about it. He showed me the connections that go to the Amp.
So what's up with that? Was there different types of Factory sound systems?
I will say that the system sounds pretty good now. So the factory speakers must be somewhat of good speakers. (they actually sound better than my MTX's I had in my car)
