I just got my factory cassette (yuck!) replaced by a Pioneer (DEH-P3500) last night. The installer said i had an Amplified Premier system. He said Ford did it for a couple of years. He also said that the Amp is in the rear cargo area.

I thought only the Limited Explorers had the premium sound systems? Plus I thought they had a Sub in the rear? Mine just has the little opening with a small cargo net over the hole where the sub goes.

Mine is only a 1996 XL, so there's nothing special about it. He showed me the connections that go to the Amp.

So what's up with that? Was there different types of Factory sound systems?

I will say that the system sounds pretty good now. So the factory speakers must be somewhat of good speakers. (they actually sound better than my MTX's I had in my car):)

Yeah, I encountered the "factory amp" problem a long time ago. I hear it is in the back, next to the little mesh holder deal, under that panel. I do know there were different systems, regular and "premium." But it doesnt matter to you, since in order to get your new deck to sound right, the installer had to bypass that amp in the back (which is not very good anyhow). The factory speakers arent so bad, for factory speakers. But if you throw some good juice from any new hi-power (40/50watt channel max, like all new decks) deck, you will blow out the cheap foam surround for the woofer, but more likely the voice coil will melt and your midrange will be dead. They arent designed to take much heat. Even if you dont play them loud, eventually you will just wear them down. But keep those factories in till you blow them, they will do well for a while.

Great!
Thanks for the replys guys!:D
