'04 XLT
I have an '04 XLT and I got a free 3rd row in it, which comes in very handy in dire circumstances. My problem is that I would love to throw a couple subs back there but Im worried that the boxes will be too bulky for the area. I don't have the room to do it. I was thinking building a custom box might work, or maybe some cylandrical subs that could just slide it. Cutting holes into the apolstry is not an option at the moment, so that's out of the question. Shoot some ideas at me. Thanks a lot.

Does the '04 have the cargo net cubby thing on the passenger side in the cargo area? Ya know, where the MTX Thunderform, Q-Logic's Q-Form or the JL Stealthbox could go?
The only other option I could see is if you built a box, or got a pre-loaded box, or even something like Infinity's Baselink, and the wired it so it could be quickly/easily disconnected and removed when you need the 3rd row......

Idea:

False rear floor with subs built in, but you could take it out if you need a complete flat load floor with the seats folded.

Yes, it does have those net compartments, and theyre on both sides. Tell me more, I like this.

as soon as I get the cash! Thanks all!

Re:

You might be able to find that on Ebay for much less. Everyone here buys stuff off of Ebay and we can all assure you its safe. Be sure if you do find some Stealth Boxes that its the right model, and you are going to have to buy an amp for it. Also, lots of people build their own stealth boxes, there are a bunch of threads here on it. That may not be for you if you arnt really an audio guy.

The JL Stealthbox seems to be the cream-of-the-crop.
The MTX & Q-Logic models are a lot cheaper. I had a Q-Form once, but returned it due to lack of cash flow at the time, but the box seemed well built.
You just have to make sure you by a sub that isn't too deep, and you'll have to consider hiding the amp somewhere since it seems you want full function of the cargo area. Many on this site have hidden decent amps behind the panels with the stealthboxes...Just make sure you plan it out and take your time and you will be very happy with your system. Since you said you don't have the cash yet, now is a good time to start planning!!!

Tanks very much gatorpatric and Ru Dawg.

In response to gatorpatric, I've been an eBayer for quite some time. I actually bought my previous car on ebay, which I have since sold to my uncle ('89 mercedes s-wagon). I love eBay, but I get addicted = ].

Ru Dawg - I agree with you that the stealthbox seems, well, the most "stealthy" and quality. I have a little over a month to pan, so I intend on putting time into that. I'm thinking either a custom made box for the amps, or maybe behind the woofer. I'm not too worried about the depth of the sub, because the stock system that came with my X is fabulous, especially for a stock car. A little more boost to get the people behind me throbbin lol.

Thanks a lot everyone, you've really brought me large steps ahead in my plans to enhance my X. Thanks and if you have any more ideas or comments, bring em on!

what about bazookas? i dont have much experience with them, so i dont know how they sound, but they seem like they would be a good choice. just run the wires to a distro point in the trim, then connect it to the sub when u need to, disconnect it when u dont need it - heres a link to the plate i was referring to(obviously paint to match the trim): http://www.radioshack.com/product.a...y_name=CTLG_007_002_008_000&product_id=40-983

That's not a bad idea, but as I said, I really an not willing to cut up the apolstry. Thanks anyway man.

I'm in the final stages of my system build in my '03 XLT and I got the Stealthbox for it. I also built a new floor and put all my amps underneath with forced air cooling. I had to look for a (used) Explorer without 3rd row seating due to needing a level floor in the back for loading camera gear inside. The folded 3rd row seats just didn't collapse flat enough for me plus I hardly ever have anybody sitting in the back. I'll post more pix later, but be aware that if your Exploder has a rear A/C unit, you won't be able to put in a JL unit. The Stealthbox installs into the driver's side rear wheelwell. My '94 held the S'box on the passenger side.....and I still have it if anybody's interested!
