97 XLT with 170k. Some days while driving the engine will dy while driving. I can pull over, put in park and try to resart. The engine will not restart unless I wait 2 minutes and then it will run fine. Some days it will do this several times, other days it will not occur at all. Otherwise she runs great. I'm scratching my head on this..

Fuel. Spark. Compression. Timing.

My guess is fuel. Check the inertia switch and make sure its pushed all the way down. Also make sure the fuel pump wires arn't corroded or frayed.

Check your grounds as well. Both motor and frame.

When was the last tune up?
is the truck overheating?
Got the codes pulled?

When it won't start, do you hear the fuel pump prime when you turn the key to the ON position? If not, then it's fuel delivery related.

I will dig into it this weekend and see what I can uncover. Thanks for the replies. I will post what I find.

Sounds like the problem I had with a first gen. Mine was a bad relay.

Do you recall which relay? Was it the fuel pump relay? Prior owner says they had just replaced the fuel pump because they had the same problem.

Sorry, don't know which one. There were 2 identical relays side by side. One of the 2 was bad. Would it be safe to swap them? Remember, mine was gen 1.
