Ford Explorer XLT 2014
Just bought Ford Explorer 2014 XLT from Hallmark Ford Surrey, BC.
Everything is good, except few problems with interior light.

Interior light is controlled by one button, just bellow fog lights.
This button supposed to switch on all interior courtesy lights if you press it.
(page 104 of Ford Explorer 2014 Owner’s Manual.)

It doesn’t. When I press it nothing happens. This is one problem.

Second problem is that all interior lights must be switched on automatically when any door is opened.
(Page 105 of Ford Explorer 2014 Owner’s Manual)

They don’t.

Is this a manufacturing defect ?

Seems that this is an issue, because manually when you press each lamp it works. It’s just they are not controlled from instrumentals and on-board automation.

Anyone could advice me on this problem?
Can this be solved without driving to a dealer?

Sounds like someone forgot to connect the switch to its harness. I suspect that because you said the lights work individually from their own switch.

Its a new car, take it back to the dealer.

When I picked up my 2014 5 months ago I realized a single accent light was not working.

I took it in for it and they fixed it. That particular light was not connected to the wire harness.
(side note while fixing it the mechanic scratched and chipped the door handle. I noticed that 2 days later and took it back and they ordered me a new one)

You paid for a new car, that means everything is supposed to be working.

As EGUY4 mentioned, take it back to the dealer and have them check it out. Something like that should have been picked up in the pre delivery inspection.
Also, I think you should update your profile to show 2014 XLT in place of just plain 2011.
Good luck.

Same problem with our 2013 Explorer , fuse was blown !!! Easy fix by dealer !!

On our 14' sport, you can push the button either on the left or the right....

Pushing it on the right side makes the dash lights go up (pushing it multiple times makes the dash lights keep turning up) whereas HOLDING it down makes the interior lights all come on.

Pushing it on the left side makes the dash lights go down (pushing it multiple times makes the dash lights keep going down) whereas HOLDING it down turns the interior lights all off if they are on

Not sure if this helps, assuming it's the same style of button in the XLT.

.... And on ours, the entry lighting options (interior lights coming on when entering the vehicle) is controlled on the little driver information screens on the gauge panel)

Hi alex101,

Were you ever able to get the dealer to check this out? Please send me an update along with your VIN, odometer reading, full name, best daytime phone number, and servicing dealer (via PM) so I can do more research. :)
