98XLT "THE GENERAL"
Well "The General" (98XLT) has a problem. It seems the front diff has a leak and I was quoted $500 to fix it. It is a slow leak, maybe one or two drips a day but I think I might be able to disable control-trac and that might help a bit(for a while anyhow). I would imagine when it pulses power to the front it would agitate and could possibly worsen the leak over time. The second problem is the shocks. Currently I have about 54,000 on factory shocks and I think it might be time. I have a TT and Shackles on my rig and the front is very very solid ( back leans a bit to the left). I was thinking of going over to AutoZone tommoro and picking up some Gabriels and some shocks extenders just to see if I can help the problem smooth out the ride. I will probably go with Bilsteins at a later date. I would really like a smooth ride in my Explorer, and I know it is possible even while having 31's and shackle/TT. My thoughts for the axle leak is let it go and monitor fluid levels but this summer find myself a 8.8" front and rear with limited slip and swap it out to replace my 3.55 with 3.73's , which would hopefully give me more power on the interstate and more off the line. Any thoughts or suggestions on these matters would be much appreciated

Also what is the smoothes , best riding shock to get while still not having a lincoln? (considering price too, I'm Poor)

The Gabriels are great shocks. I have about 30k on mine and still love them, about 15k with the TT/Shackles.
