Hi. I recently acquired my best bud's '99 Sport SOHC. He was going to trade it in, but I offered him $2700
for it. He agreed. It had close to 70k miles when I got it. It has minor paint scratches, but no biggie. It's just going to be my daily driver. It was well maintained (machanically) when he owned it. Recently though, I've notice a few problems.
First problem, when I step on the brakes to start it up in the morning, the right turn signal flashes. This does not happen all the time. When the truck is running and I press the brakes the right hand signal blinks. And if I do not depress it, smoke starts to come out from the steering wheel. Brake pads are around 8,000 miles old.
Second problem is starting up the vehicle. It seems to be experiencing a rough start up that when I start the ignition, the engine starts screaming as if my foot is in the gas pedal even though it is not.
Third problem seems transmission related. When the truck is running and it's shifting from first gear to second gear it jerks forward. I can't really explain it in technical terms, but the behavior of the truck is similar to that of an automatic car when you suddenly step on the gas and the engine picks up its momentum and it runs like a jack rabbit. Or it is similar to that feeling when you push O/D and the truck jerks forward.
Any ideas guys? Thank you!
