Problems, Urgent Help Needed!

At that mileage you are looking at the servo bores being worn out causing the pressure loss and 5th to not apply at that point it would be CHEAPER to put in a low mileage junkyard unit.

You will be getting a p0732 code soon too for that 2-3 flare

So am I looking at a complete build? And for that or any other recommended fix, what price range are we looking at?

And the reason I am asking is because i want to know ahead of time if the mechanic is yanking my chain so I don't have to pay double what the job is worth.

Odds are, that if the fluid isn't low, that the overdrive and servo bores are distorted and leaking fluid past the servos which is causing what I initially took for low fluid symptoms and also explains the DTC regarding overdrive (5th gear). In this case because of about 140K miles on the transmission it is in the best interest to completely rebuild the transmission instead of just repairing the damaged items because odds are new components will cause something else to fail if it is not completely rebuilt. This is why maculoco2000 said to just get your hands on a relatively low mileage used junkyard unit and have it installed instead.
Just for reference, a cheap remanufactured unit runs around 1100.00 (ebay)or a more expensive unit around 1500.00 ( see here: http://www.smartpartsauto.com/automatic_transmission_5r55s.html )

My neighbor has a 2005 XLT with the same 5 speed. His failed at 115K, and he told me a Ford dealership replaced it for around 3,000 plus tax.

Well guys at AAMCO they said that I would need a completely new transmission. its 2695 for a new transmission with a 3 year warranty. Looks like thats what I'll have to do. Its cheaper than a brand new car unfortunately.

Sorry to hear that it ended up being worst case, but thanks for updating us.
