I just noticed the other day that the tread on one half of each of the front two tires is MUCH more worn down than the other half. This only applies to the front two tires. the half of the tire facing the inside of the car is almost completey worn down, while the half of the tire facing away from the car looks unused. I have BFG ATs which are almost brand new, i bought them only a few months ago. The tire pressure is around 40psi, which is what they were set to when they were put on my truck. I have kept the pressure at this point since ive had them thinking that what they had it set to was the correct psi. On the tire it says the max load is 65 psi, but that seems very high to me, besides, when they are at 40 they seem to be inflated pretty well. I am about to switch my front 2 tires to the opposite sides to try an even out the wear, but even still the inner half of the tread wore down way too fast, and id like to prevent them from being useless in only a few more months. So if anyone knows why this is happening, or what psi bfg ats should really be set to, id really appreciate the info.

Thanks,
Sean

First thing, 40psi isn't correct.

Search for "chalk test", as that is the only real way to get the correct pressure. 30-35 is more common..

As for the wear you are getting.. Either the Toe is way off, or the camber is way off. If the toe is way out, it will wear the inside of the tires, quickly. If the Camber is way off, it will also wear the inside of the tires (if the camber is way negative - meaning the tires are leaning in at the top).

usually having the camber off takes a while to show up. If the toe is way off, it can show up in a few hundred miles.

Either way, sounds like you need your alignment adjusted..

you need a front end alignment and less air pressure. somewere between 30-35 psi is fine.

Is there any way an alignment can be a do it yourself job??

im kinda low on cash

you can do a toeset with a tape measure.... but you need to know what you are doing or you may cuase more damage than good.... just pony up the $60 and get it aligned

Realisticly, No. Have a pro alignment shop do this job.

Good luck.....

It's one of those things better left off to the professionals. Not because they have the skills but because they have the right tools and equipments.

agreed. if you really, and i mean REALLY know what you're doing, you can get it kinda close. if you've never done it before, dont even bother. you could make it even worse than it is now.
