ok i know there are a few threads on this but i couldnt find them, when i start up my 95 4.0 it puffs smoke for a second then stops. It runs perfect othewise ans there are no other noticeable sysmtoms. What is causing this?
How much should i expect for possible repairs?

Valve guides. Its only annoying and doesnt mean anything is wrong or will go wrong.

the exhaust valve guide?

Intake. When it sits, a drip or two of oil will leak down the valve into the combustion chamber. This is why there is a single puff of smoke at start up. It will only do it once it sits a while. Kill it and start it right back up and it wont do it.

If the smoke is blue, the engine is burning oil. If it's white (thick white, like a James Bond smoke screen) then its burning coolant. If it's black, its burning fuel (running rich).
