My friend just had his EGR Valve and Senor Replaces, along with the valve to control the coolant flow. Last night while driving to dinner, his CEL came on again. He has a 1998 Explorer XLT I believe (4.0L V6, 2Dr, Auto).

I know with my 1989 Probe GT, I can ground a wire in my engine bay and my computer will flash the CEL light a certain number of times, and that is my code. Is there anything like that with the Explorers? I searched a little, and all I found was Code Readers and Scanners... Hes not mechanicaly inclined, nor does he have the means to fix his truck himself, but I do. If its somthing I can fix, great. If its not, he wants to go into the shop armed with the knowledge of whats wrong with the SUV.

I probably wont be able to check this untill later in the week, so if anyone can help out, please Email me at Freesparr@yahoo.com, or Get me on AIM - Chrisholio.

Any help is MUCH appreciated :)

Depending on how long ago he had is CEL checked they should recheck it again for free (30 days or so). As far as cehcking it yourself I am unsure... always had a scanner handy. I'd run by Autozone, etc and have them pull the codes for free if it comes to that.

Welcome to the site. Since its a 1998..It's OBD-II compliant so you defiantely need a code scanner to read the codes. I do believe Autozone still reads codes for free.. You might wanna try going up there and have the codes read and post the result on here.. Those guys aren't the sharpest tool in the shed but atleast you can get the codes read for free.
