Hello, all. I recently purchased a low mileage (77k miles) '98 Sport 4.0 SOHC that was sitting in a pole barn for the last two years. I had to replace the fuel pump and did the normal fluid changes. However, I believe some mice may have built a nest in the heater box. Anyone know of a write-up on pulling out the heater box on a second gen? Any info is greatly appreciated!! Thanks!!

The easiest way to clear it out may be by going in through the blower motor opening under the hood. Getting the heater box itself open or out will prove to be a royal pain in the butt. (Lets just say it involves removing the entire dashboard...)

Under the hood, remove the cruise control servo and position aside, remove the two (IIRC?) bolts holding the washer fluid/coolant reservoir in place and position it out of the way, then you should be able to get the screws out of the blower motor. That should provide you with a fairly large opening to be able to get a flexible vacuum hose in there, and possibly a mirror and light...

Good luck!

Thanks, gijoecam. I'll give that a shot.

Edit: I'm not sure how I put that "yawn" face at the top of my post. I didn't mean anyting by it.

I finally got time to pull the blower motor. Man, you should've seen the giant mouse nest in that thing!! It took a while, but I was able to clear all the debris in the "cage" as well as inside the heater plenum. I also pulled out one dead mouse....eeewwww. Anyway, thanks for the info guys!! I really really appreciate it!!

Troy.
