Hey everyone,

There is a Kodiak Brown 2012 explorer in my area that my family is interested in. It's currently selling for 38,250 and I have a 750 dollar off brochure from Ford bringing it down to 37,500. It has 163 miles on the clock being sold as new. Does anyone know if this is a good deal? It's fully loaded.. Are there any other offers out there that I can take advantage of to get the price lower?

Also, I asked the salesperson what the build date of the car is and he showed me that it was build 11/11.. Would this mean that the Explorer has the Mytouch issues fixed?

Thanks all!

Welcome to the forum tianh!

There is currently a $1500.00 cash back incentive running in our area. Is it valid where you are at?

Also, when you say fully loaded, what does that mean? Is it 4WD, does it have the DVD players, the floor mats, mud flaps, tow package... so on and so forth :)

If you give us the vehicles VIN#, we can look up the window sticker and be able to give you better, more focused advice.

Also, I'll just throw out my opinion on buying a 2012. We had the option of buying a 2012 and getting an extra $1000.00 back. Seeing the issues and TSBs on the 2011 and 2012 models, we decided we didn't want to fuss with having to deal with any of the issues that those models may have. As a result, we decided to order a 2013. Maybe you can look through the TSBs and see which ones apply to the car and if any do, have the dealership complete all of them before you sign on the line :)

Thanks VinceL for the reply!

You're right, its not a fully loaded since it does not have all of those options.

Here is the VIN: 1FMHK7F92CGA64768

Unfortunately, my parents do not want a 13 because its considered a bad number, they're superstitious like that! That is why it would be so awesome if this car had the updated MY system.

Also how can I redeem that cash back offer? There is a 1500 instant rebate associated with the car I am not sure if that is what you are talking about though.

Considering according to this the car should be about 40 grand it isn’t a bad price. I have a 2011 Ford Explorer and I really haven’t had any issue with MFT and updated it easily with a USB. I only had an issue with my rear seats coming of the hinges and a medal piece popping out. In about 3 hours though Ford had it fixed with an oil change.

P.S Here is the website I saw: http://www.inventory.ford.com/servi...15698da691baa2e61923&pacode=12805&modelid=220

Just be sure you're actually getting a 2012. Kodiak Brown didn't start as a color until the '13 MY which came out this March. If it was built in 11/11 I highly doubt it's Kodiak Brown. Happy shopping!

Yep, that is what I was talking about :)

Seems like that is an okay price for the car, but you would have to make sure that they didn't try to charge you too many dealer fees. X-plan price minus the rebates and with plan fees should be around $38,389 (and out the door would just add tax, title, and license), not sure what the rates are in your state. The $37,500 sounds good until they start adding advertising and all of those other fees that you have to fight hard to get rid of, and some of which you won't be able to. If they start adding, don't let them go over the X-plan price above, because X-plan is the easiest no hassle way to get a fair price, but if you like to haggle, you can usually get a couple hundred less.

RN2003AZ was correct, the color of the car is Golden Bronze Metallic. That color was replaced MY2013 with Kodiak Brown.

Oh and another thing, looking at the window sticker, it looks like the car was built on 12/13/11. There's that number 13 again. Could be an omen...

According to this inventory window sticker I found your right the color is not Kodiak Brown but Golden Bronze Metallic.

The sticker shows it is a 2012 Limited FWD Ecoboost with 301A package with dual panel moonroof. The sticker shows an MSRP price of $43,520.

The following link will show the sticker for that vehicle.

For the actual build date check the sticker at the bottom right when you open the driver's door. It is on the body itself and the date as shown on mine
is at the very bottom of the sticker. 1201102242750

I don't think that is the build date Vince. I checked my window sticker and it too had a number in that area that showed 02 18 11 but the build date was 1201102242750, or Feb. 24, 2011. Perhaps the first number is the date on which the window sticker was produced. I received the actual window sticker when I picked up the Ex and the build date is not shown on it but the 02 18 11 is.

Welp,

My folks ended up getting a brand new 2012 Explorer Black Limited for 38,900 before fees since they couldn't stand the other brown color. Will post pics when it comes! Should I tell the dealer to do all the tsbs on the car when it comes from out of town? Or can I always do that at another time at a reputable dealer.

TSB's are not the same as recalls. A TSB will only be carried out if the problem exists and usually the dealer has to be able to replicate it. TSB's can be done anytime without charge during the factory warranty period. Hope that helps.

You know what Peter, that sounds right. I knew that was a date and had some significance.

I would still ask for them to be performed. These TSB's exist for a reason. If they balk at performing them before delivery, maybe you could make them aware of your displeasure if any of those issues arise and you are forced to bring the vehicle back.
