I own a 1991 Explorer with the push button 4x4 but I would like to swap to the floor shifter as I really don't trust electronics to keep working when I really need it to. I'm just wondering how do I need to go about this. I'm a intermediate shade tree mechanic so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

There are 2 ways.

1) Buy a 13-54 manual shift t-case. Swap out the e-shift case, cut a hole in the floor and install the shifter that you got with the case. (you did get the shifter, right?)

2) Buy this from RangerX and install on your current T-case.

You have several options (listed in order of ease of installation).

1) Under Cab Manual Shifter ~$60
2) In Cab Manual Shifter ~$300
3) Swap your auto T-case with a manual at a junk yard. ~$$$

Unfortunately the T-cases for auto 4x4 and manual are different. As such to convert your auto to manual you'd need to replace the T-case along with all the linkage and shift hardware.

x2 on that. I'd love to see a write-up on this. That is one hell of a slick set up! Is it some custom built rig, or are these available off the shelf from this D&D?

Damn, I forgot about the Shiftster!

There is another option, but that even more of a P.I.T.A. then all 3 of the above combined. I converted a 13-54 E-shift case to a manual by stealing all of the internal shifter parts from a bad 13-50m. I had to drill and ream the 13-54e case to accept the manual shift shaft and use the back half of the 13-50m case. It worked and looked like it was a stock 13-54m. When these cases start going up in value, I may have to build a few more of them.:D

I never installed it, but directions say 10-20 minutes I think.

Thanks. Seems the easier and cheeper way to go. But does anyone know how dependable it is?

I dont have one, but I built my own system very similar years ago. I can tell you from experience, that the cable is the weak link. It looks like that one uses an auto trans shift cable. How often do those get replaced?!?!?

ranger X can you help me to source one the sifter to my borg wanner Tcase
