I'm suspecting one of my O2 sensors is going bad and will put a meter on them tomorrow. When it's time to replace them, what brands are best and is there really any difference as far as MPG? I'm considering getting a universal sensor because they seem to be cheaper and all I have to do is swap the connector, BFD right. On the same note, is there a way to manipulate the signal from the O2 sensor enough to slightly lean the mixture at all times, not a lot, but maybe 1 or 2 percent?

Universal sensors= PITA....good luck!
As for question 2. NO

I had "Standard" O2's in with no probs. Prior I had bosch. I have the rear 02's (assuming you have the 4.0) for sale since my truck I had them turned off. Let me know. They only have 400 miles on them

how many o2 sensors are on a first gen and where?

i have 01 sport trac and both front o2 sensors are out. I have to replace them. Im trying to follow in this post that there are universal ones I can get? Bosch? alittle more information would be great. autozone was $61 for each, the dealer was $104!!!
