Question about 04 with front engine rattle

I know the rattle is the timing chain, my question is only the front one is making noise, I hear nothing from the rear one. This is on one of my wifes friend explorer and she doesnt have a lot of cash right now. My question is should I replace the rear aswell or is it ok to just tear down the front and change those. Thanks

you proberly need giudes and tensioners there is a kit you can get for that, in the front i have the same problem .. to do the rear you will have to remove engine to get to that one

Are you guys talking about a 4.0L or the 4.6L?

Most people forget to leave that info out.

whoops ... i meant the 4.0 SOHC i didnt know the 4,6`s had the same problem pfft german engineering

yes its a 4.0. I guess I"ll tear the front down and replace them and hope the rear doesn't start makeing noise anytime soon.
