Hi guys, I currently have a 94 explorer sport with 30 inch tires and 3.27 gears and 88000 miles and some rust in the typical areas. I have found a 1996 bronco with 83000 miles, xlt package 302 v8 and automatic tranny. I went to look at it and it is 100% rust free. THe price they gave me out the door after my trade was 6900. I've always wanted a full-sized truck with a v8 and most importantly no rust. I'm thinking about getting this bronco. I could pay it off in 2.5 years. The problem I'm having is that I'm currently finishing up the first term of my junior year in college. My parents think I should just wait it out the the explorer then when i graduate get a new or newer used vehicle because they say that at least i know whats wrong with the explorer, while when Im buying the used bronco i'm basically "buying someone elses used car problems". I can see the point of both my side and my parents side of the arguement. Just wondering what you guys think I should do.

The bronco can be seen here

That's way to much. I looked at a fullsize Bronco when my flexplate broke on my 4.0. The price was 5,000, no trade with 92k. And they were willing to work on price. There was no rust, it had aftermarket aluminum 16's with 31's, but the interior wasn't 100%. Nice Bronco's aren't super easy to find, but I think that is way to much, even before trade.

That is about blue book retail value for that truck, but it does seem a little high to me. Assuming I can talk them down on the price, are there any known issues with that year of broncos, is the tranny and motor know to be reliable for 100k miles??

If it's got the 5.0 I assume it has the AOD/AODE. Actually, being a 96, it may have the 4r70w. Those are reliable, as well as the t case the fullsizes had. My dad had a fullsize Bronco and it was great. The only problems he had was the computer burned out, and it rusted.

As with all FS Broncos, check the rear window seal at the bottom. If it is torn/ripped, there is a decent chance that the tailgate is starting to rust on the inside.

The shift motor and auto-hubs are just as reliable as they are on Explorers, i.e. they aren't.

If it has the "plastic" door panels, they will often squeek like mad and drive you nuts when driving it.

Check the body around the spare tire swing mount.

$6900 with trade is too much IMO, but clean Broncs with low miles are getting tougher and tougher to find, and they still have a demand for them. My mom got her super clean '95 XLT with 85K for $5500.
