Ok, so my dad was telling me that he took his 95 X in for service because the check engine light wouldn't go out. They told him that it was because the catalytic converter need to be replaced. Now on the 95 there are two cats that are in-line and are conected to the rest of the exhaust with flanges (if I'm wrong please correct me). Would it be possible to just cut out the cats and weld in an after market one?? There reason that I'm asking is because Ford wanted some where between $400- $600 to reaplace it!!

One more question, what's the difference between a 2-way and a 3-way catalytic converter??

CATs

Its illegal to mess with those unless they are bad. The guy at Midas told me if you can go 65 or 70 on the freeway with no problems, then the CATs are fine. Try nocking on them with your hand first. If you hear things rattling around in there then there might be a problem. Sounds like the dealer needs some money, besides, Summit racing makes some that bolt right up for about 150. Good luck.
