hey there....my 4x4 stopped working and i found out that it is a common problem w/explorers...i had all the symptoms and everything so as of right now the transfer case motor is hanging from under my truck...i'm just waiting on my brother to get home to help me get those darn springs and copper thingys in right...for those of you that have done this procedure though...how dirty were the contacts b/f you cleaned them? mine didnt look that bad...they were kind of black but no buildup or anything on them...anyways i was just curious to know what other people's looked like b/c i hope...i HOPE...this fixes the problem...

thanks,
Turner

Reading the title I was expecting a different message , then I thought about it. I am such a retard.

lol i can see how the heading might be confusing...but has anyone out there done this? i have the motor back together but i cant get it back on the actual transfer case...any tips? anyone?

thanks,
turner

Yes, the black build up is what needs cleaned off. I just did mine about a week ago. Once I got the motor back together everything work great. We will see how long that lasts... The plastic wheel that has a groove in it has to be in the exact same position that it was when you took the motor off the transfer case, otherwise the motor will not line up with the shaft that goes into the transfercase. Did that make ant sense?? Anyway... if you look at the setup you will get the idea.

yeah yeah like the female end that the pointed shaft off the transfer case goes into? lol that might have sounded a little dirty but that's the only way i know to explain it....i didnt move it when i took it off and it looks like it's lining up...i mean does it take a lot of strength to push it back in? i'm giving it all i have and it wont go in...b/c i think the things are lined up...i dont know...
