FYI I bought a 2 1/2" performance exhaust from Meineke and it seems to be very good, and it has lifetime warranty. It increased my hp a little too. I have only had it for about two months though. It cost me $260 for everything and it took about 2-3 hours, but they were very busy at the time.

I personally prefer the local, smaller shops. They tend to have better customer service and better service in general. But that's just me, I found a really good shop here. 2 or 3 hours is normal for an exhaust install, depending on what's getting put on. You'd rather them take their time than have crappy welds.

I would suggest asking around. Ask 5 car guys who they trust, and if you have a REALLY good shop in your town, 3 of them will mention that shop (but if only 2 mention one, I'd use them). I have two great shops in my town I would use over any "chain shop." But I believe those shops are franchises, so you may hear of one owned by a great muffler guy who does great work. I've been to a couple of those chain shops that didn't even bend pipe, they ordered them; but I have been in a few more that do very good bending.

And getting exhaust done is usually not a quick process, especially if anyone is in front of you. I believe most places will want your ride about half the day.

I also believe in supporting the SMALL GUY! They will treat you right for the hope of creating a life-long customer. The big guys see you as a phone number to call when they are done! (That's just my opinion, don't anyone take that personally)

do like i did and ask around.... i was able to find some immigrant workers up here that did some good work.... it was 100 bucks to get the muffler with custom bent pipe installed plus the 65 i spent on the muffler verry happy with it.... and when i had to have a new exit pipe welded back on.. it was only 50.....

where in NJ are you from? i can tell you some places depending on your location.

Try OKAuto In Stewartsville NJ. They do alot of custom work but i dont know if they do exhaust i imagine they would. Ive seen the work they do and its pretty good though when i took my 96 in for an alignment they lowered the front unevenly so that leaves me wondering a little. (I have since tightened back up on the torsion bars and my truck is back at its old height:))
There website is www.ok4wd.com

well, a lot of those "chain" places are independently owned and operated, so it doesnt really matter. i went to a meineke near my house (when i had my exhaust) that specializes in custom applications; they can put a custom exhaust system on a tuna can if you wanted them too ;) so, like others have mentioned, just ask around and find a reputable shop. yeah, you want good welds and for everything to fit right, but welding exhaust isnt rocket science; my point is that you dont need the high commanding king of exhaust, just find a guy who knows what hes doing and is knowledgeable and is friendly with his customers (i.e.: if you ask him a question that you might think is dumb, and he treats you like its a dumb question, f*ck him, just go somewhere else.)

good luck.

im in middlesex county.....

haha alright so am i..what town?? dont worry im not gonna come stalk you! thers a great place called rayco on rt18 next to sams club i belive. call em up. they have great prices and do great service. i know at least 8 people that have gone there to get custom jobs and got great service.

I had mine done at a local shop. Excellent work and took about 5 or 6 hours. They cut out the old stuff and installed the new muffler, relocated my brake box, bent both pipes, and welded on both tips. If you ask me, I would say thats a decent amount of time to do all that work in. Personally, I think that the local shops do better work and are more friendly and willing to do it your way. That is the only way they can build a good reputation. Sure, the big guys need to have a good reputation too, but they can afford advertising and can afford to fix their f**k ups.

im in sayreville...lol.....i actually called that place rayco and they said to come in on saturday...but i would have to leave my truck there for a few hours...I didnt think that it took that long....but it was either between there or mieneke

but i take it they are good so it looks like im going there.....thanks
