question about dropped awd/4wd trucks

ive read that its not adviseable to drop an awd/4wd more than 2 inches on the front because of the angle that the cv shafts are on puts a lot of extra wear on them.

Just wondering if any awd or 4wd guys have dropped more than 2 inches and what their experiences were with how quickly it goes through cv shafts.

The way I see it im going from a stock size 235/75/15 tire with 28.88" height to a 275/45/20 tire with 29.74" of height so the tire itself should raise the cv shaft upwards 0.43" (half of the height difference) so i should be able to drop it 2.43" and still be ok.

tire height doesnt change the angles on the shafts, getting a larger tire would have the same affect as driving onto 4 car ramps, only thing that can change the cv angles is the weight of vehicle on the suspension, stiffness of springs, and raising or lowering the differential. I personally dont think 2.5"s will hurt anything

Dropped my 03 Sport Trac

I dropped my 03 Sport Trac 4wd the front about 3.5" and rear 4". The CV shaft is at an angle of about 15 degrees in stock height. If you drop it past the level point of the CV to where it is now angled up, what is the difference than if it is angled down? The over all length from axle to wheel its still the same.

I am planning on dropping my 99 4x4. I am going with the aftermarket torsioin bar key adjusters and backing off the tension. I am hoping for about 2.5" Under stock height. 3" blocks in the rear. For tires, I currently have 255/70-16 at 30.1" and am going to a BFG Radial T/A 265/60-16 at 28.6"
