I plan on putting a body lift and some 33 inch m/t or a/t's but I have read some people change their gears to return it to stock. What happens if I don't change gears? How will it ride? And if I decide to change them how much should I look at paying?

Many Thanks!

That depends on what gear ratio you have stock. The code is on the door sticker. If will just seem more sluggish if you do not change them, and could be tougher on the transmission. It is not cheap to have gears done at a shop either.

Since he has a 5.0 most likely they are 3.73. 4.10 would be better but given the torque of the 5.0 it won't be nearly as detrimental as having a V6.

Yes, good point. Also a swap to 4.10s would be cheaper because they can be snagged from a junkyard. It wont be a huge difference but I imagine it'd be noticeable.

To be honest most people do not regear when they go to 33's. Usually those who do off road fairly often.

I got a quote from a shop that does regears. New gears (front and rear) run $900 installed.

I'm considering it just to make towing easier. It tows OK now, but I'd like to upsize my tires in the future. 32s with 3.55 gears and towing into the mountains (6,000 to 11,000 feet) won't work out too well.

I figure $900 is roughly 2 maybe 3 car payments on a truck I wouldn't need to buy if I did the regear.

if your going to do gears , i would do the 4:56 gears, they will be better than 4:10 and it will be a lot easier on gas, and the transmission,,

Thanks for the help! Yall have given me something to think about.
