i did searches already but nothing really answered my question..

im planning on buying just a muffler and having a shop give me custom pipes from the cat back...i also want dual tips...instead of the single tip i have now..(94 explorer XLT)...

im not sure if i should go with the 50 series or 40 series flowmaster....

with either one, does it matter where the in and out is on the muffler...i mean i see....off set in/off set out.......center in/center out....etc. does it matter if your getting custom pipes anyway?....im pretty sure i have a single in....but i should check ...ive only had the truck 3 months now, and i really want to start hooking this baby up....

someone guide me..lol...
thanks

ok my stock muffler is offset in center out....so i think im about to buy the 40 series delta flow.......but how do you know what size to get....do you have to measure the pipe?.....

2.00"

2.25"

2.50"

or

3.00"

If you going to have a shop install the muffler then it don't really matter if the inlet/outlet is offset or not. The guys installing the pipes will make it work. Mine was offset (left) inlet and center outlet. With mine, there was one guy(the owner) that install a custom cat back. and it took him a little over an hour to do.

My pipes were 2.25 factory and now 2.5
I have an 99 XLT with the SOHC

i just checked my pipes and they are 2.00" factory,

does that mean you have to order the 2.00" muffler, or can u go bigger and they can make it fit?

Most Mufflers shops have a hydraulic pipe bender that also crimp or enlarge pipes. If you want 2.25 or 2.5 just ask the muffler man to see if he has the pipes in stock. Just don't go to large because you can loss backpressure(not a good thing).

I thought the 1st gen X's were 2.25"...At least that's what mine is and I thought I'd heard it somewhere else. Oh well.

40 series versus 50 series is always a topic. It basically depends on what you want it to sound like. I have a 50 and it sounds good, but not noticable until you really lay into it. 40 series is louder. I heard a sound clip of one and they sound pretty mean.

ok so now im a little worried here...well not really...

I went and did somewhat of a measurement on my pipe from the cat to the muffler...i used the old string around the pipe method and just measured that across...was about 2"

i already ordered the 2 " one.....is that going to be a problem?.....

anyone know if all first gen explorers are 2.25?.....

mines a 94, so im guessing thats first gen right?...

Shouldn't be a problem installing it, but you should ask the muffler shop installing it just to be sure.
