question about my system????

Ok got my system hooked up today and its two 12in audiobahn in a plexi glass box and so far im not that happy with it... its good but it doesnt beat as hard... Anyways i have to take it tomorrow to my local car tech shop and get my amp and subs settings adjusted for my truck.... anybody think it might beat harder... or will I just gonna have to get a plain wooden carpet box for that hard beat?????

Bandpass boxes are for loudness (which you have), a sealed box will give you what you're looking for.

is it hard to to trasfer the subs from the other box and put them in a new box. like a lot of wiring and crap?????

no just some wires to the subs, and re-screw it in, and then hooking the speaker wire back up to the back of the box. prolly one of the easier things to do when putting ur system in

not exactly...different subs respond better/worse in different boxes.

his major problem is you're probably using a generic bandpass box. Any generic box bandpass/sealed/or ported wont sound good with a lot of subs because its not designed for it.

Personally i go ported on every setup i ever do and just tune low for more SQ and higher for more SPL.

your box is 90% of the sound you get, it can make your break your system

i had two audiobahn 12" , the 1251's to be exact. But i had them in a 6 cu/ft box, 3cu/ft for each sub, and a 4"x10" port for each. the subs and ports faced back.

It was LOUD!! Wish i still had them.

let the shop tune your system first. That can make hella difference. And a bandpass box should be rattling the **** out of your car, just gotta get everything set up right.

yea they beat pretty nice now, I got a much better HU in with sub control and all and I had my wires redone..... Now i just need a much better amp.

wait... where was everyone getting bandpass from? you said plexiglass...

wooden box might sound a bit better than the plexi one you have... but personally i wouldnt know because ive never had a plexi box... i wanted one but someone kinda got me away from it, they said there would be a lot of cancelation (but like i said i dont know due to lack of exp with acrylic).

good to hear that it sounds better though.

well what sucks is i need to redo my wiring, and there goes another $80+/- down the drain... but after its done nice and neat, ill be happy i redid it

hmmm.....so your box is made completely of plexiglass? I think he means a plexiglass top, i hope anyway.

*lowpass x-over ~80-120hz to your liking
*if your amp has bass boost, it will probably be centered 40-50hz try touching that up a bit
*If your HU has sub outs and you are using them, try turning them up a touch.

lastly try facing them different ways, up or back -forward probably wouldn't do too good. Move em backwards-forwards etc. Tune the heck out of it.

In Blazers the CRX style box worked the best so i would assume the same with Explorers...subs mounted towards the roof and ports facing the back gate...good luck..i had a AW1508T and a A1500HCT amp (2000W RMS each...4000+ peak) in my blazer with a ported box...my roof flexed and set off car alarms a hundred or so feet away...damn i loved it...but it was stolen

ported boxes are more for long bass notes like in rap sons while sealed are for tight bass lines like with Jazz...aslo if u thin u nees a larger box..putting insulation in it behind the subs will trick it by slowing the waves down b4 they bounc off the back of the box
