i have a 1996 ford explorer 2wd 6 cyl does anybody know if its the same rear diff thats used on a mustang because i want to buy a cover for my rear diff on my explorer from mustangsunlimited.com but dont know if it will fit
Yep. Any diff cover designed for a Ford 8.8 will bolt right up to your Ex'es rear diff.
However, I've heard there may be clearance issues with a chunky aftermarket diff cover (like one with a girdle like Ford Racing's) and the sway bar. Just double check how much room you have between your sway bar and your stock diff cover.
I think our 2-doors have shorter rear sway bar links. The longer 4-door links might solve any clearance problems (or make them worse).
To sum up, I really don't know anything. Just putting you on notice with the sway bar thing.
