- 1991 Eddie Bauer 4x4
Hey all,
As my signature says, I own a 1991 EB 4x4. It's up to 168k miles now, and the rocker panels are more or less gone. Other than that, the body is good. I paid $1000 for it a year ago, and since that time I've put almost $4000 in parts into it. Mind you, that's parts. All the labor (except machining the engine parts) was done by either myself or my brother. I have receipts for all the parts, and many of them have lifetime warranties.
My question is this: What do y'all think I could sell it for, and to whom should I attempt to sell it? Should I try to sell it here? Ebay? On the street? Sell tickets to blow it up? Something tells me that I'll never get my $5k out of it, but I'm considering selling it if it's worth anything, and getting something a few years newer. Opinions? Anyone need a solid start for an offroader?
A short list of things that have been done to the truck (not complete, just to give an idea):
I bought the vehicle in December of 2003, it had just received a rebuilt Mazda tranny, according to the previous owner. The windshield is 1 year old now. I've fixed the center console arm rest, and the driver's door pull. Both front doors are rehung with new hinges and hinge pins. The carpet inside looks like someone was murdered in the rear hatch. Generally poor condition carpet, but good condition upholstry.
Engine top end was rebuilt 3k miles ago, with new heads, rockers and pushrods. The new heads produce a much higher compression ratio, and the engine now uses at least mid-grade to prevent spark knock. This engine no longer clatters. I get 21-22mpg average with this vehicle. The tires have 5-6k miles on them. The spare tire is brand new, with a brand new stock spare carrier.
Alternator, power steering, battery, radiator, heater core, idler pulley, TPS, heater hoses, fan and fan clutch have all been replaced with new.
Front end U-Joints and wheel bearings are all new, as well as brake drums, wheel cylinders and calipers, 1 brake line, both emergency brake cables and fixtures, and manual hubs.
This is all just a list of the bigger things that have been done. I've literally spent the last year pouring time into this vehicle. I don't mind really, as I've learned a ton about auto repair from the good old exploder. Everything save the heads has been purchased in an effort to keep the vehicle stock. No mods really.
