hey guys my truck needs both front wheel bearings my question is, does anyone online sell the bearing only. i ask because everywhere i looked they sell the entire hub assembly and its a rip off when you can just get the bearing by itself and press out the old one and press in the new one. the hub assembly seems perfectly fine i dont see a need to change it with the bearing. especially when the bearing itself is something like 30 dollars and the whole thing probably runs for like 80 to 90 dollars.

front bearing are sealed, and only come as a hub assembly.

ohh darn i guess that settles it then. thanx for the quick reply.

look up tousley ford. Tell them you are from the explorer forums. Ford oem bearing=- 170$ shipped. Cant beat that price. Even the junky china ones are about that much.

Wow... wish I knew about Tousely. I paid 140 at Autozone... only to have one go bad 2 months later... they warrantied it, but I still had to install it again... pain. I would have paid $170 for OEM in a heartbeat. (http://www.tousleyford.com/)...

Do you know if the Ford OEM part comes with a Wheel speed sensor? If not, can you the one from the old hub. I've read some posts that say the sensor is matched to the hub and that you cannot swap sensors between hubs.

the oem fords used to come with a sensor, haven't done one in a while but i would say it still does.

yep comes with sensor for sure.

I normally buy OEM motorcraft parts for my explorer, but the simple fact that my OEM bearings failed at 50k, I felt that was unacceptable. I ended up buying Timken bearings from RockAuto. They were full hub assemblies with speed sensor and cost less than OEM. Same 12mo warranty too.

my right front wheel bearing went out yesterday while on the highway. the mileage is 57800. i thought they usually last for a while. just got it fixed.

question: since the right one broke should i keep an eye out for the left one now too?
