Last time I went up to Canada, I had a radar detector with me. I didn't know they were illegal, so it was confiscated and I received a $175 ticket. I'm planning another trip to Ontario, this time without a radar detector, but now I'm driving a lifted Explorer which I was not driving last time I went.

Canadian friends, should I expect to be stopped by the police for driving my Explorer into Canada? It's just a 3" body lift, 33" tires, TT, and shackles.

I just don't want to be caught off-guard again.

Thanks for your help!

I didn't know they were illegal either... I thought they were just frowned upon because they sell them in the stores... but I don't see why you would get pulled over for having a lift, there are a lot bigger lifted trucks were I live. Unless your tires are sticking out past your fenders you might get a ticket if your already getting pulled over I guess.

I would say don't worry about it being lifted , i have lift and 35 inch tires on my 96 and drove all over Ontario, with no issues.

Laws on tires and bumpers are a bit sketchy ,. but as long as the tires don't stick out 2 inches further than the fenders or flares you should be good,

What corkey said. Technically you're also supposed to have mud flaps. But I've never been pulled over and ticketed.

And the legality of radar detectors is on a per province basis.

They do have signs announcing the legality at the border crossings... I don't remember if they have them at main provincial crossing points...
