Hi,

I am new here and found this site by accident. But this might be just what I am looking for. I am planning on replacing my stock healights/foglights on my Eddie Bauer with high performance bulbs. Does anybody know exactly what high performance bulbs can be used? I need to know the model number as well as the wattage. Somebody told me to watch out not to put in bulbs with too high wattage because they could melt my lenses (plactic). Can anybody help me with this one.
Any response is appreciated. Please email me if you like.
Thanx

Several people here run Piaa Superwhite bulbs. Never once have I heard of a problem with the lights....the user may of messed up by touching the bulbs...but that's not the lights fault. For the newer Explorers you'd need 9007. Check the Performance Lighting forum for a group purchase by MattAdams.

I'd also like to welcome you to the site. You'll find anything and everything all right here. Like me answering a Piaa question before Matt....hehehe :)

Me too!!!! :D I got my Piaa Superwhites last Thursday from Matt and they're great!! The lights aren't brighter in any way but the light color is a lot cleaner than the conventional bulbs. I saw a huge improvement when I turn on high beams with the new bulbs. I hope this helps. BTW, I also would like to welcome you to this site.

Me again

Thank you guys.
now, the PIAA superwhites are for the headlights..right? Model 9007. What about foglights? Is there anything that can be done in terms of replacing them with better bulbs? (model number??) Also, what about if I get bulbs that have a too high wattage. Are my lenses at risk of melting if it gets too hot??
Please let me know what you all think...
Thanx

Piaa make superwhites for H-3's too. According to the owner's manual, the fog lights use H-3 bulbs, but in reality, they use 899 bulbs, which Piaa doesn't make with superwhites. As for high power bulbs, they would melt the wires b/c of overheating. If you can find a pair or 899 superwhites or yellow colored (I don't know the technical term for that), please tell me. Thanks.

Check out these....

Hey guys,
I did a little searching and came up with this stuff on eBay...give it a look and let me know what you think...

hey guys.. about those fogs.. are you sure they don't use the h3 bulbs? I mean, why would the manual say they do? maybe h3s are compatible? I'm looking at upgrading and I REALLY don't want to get superwhite headlights and keep factory fogs.. they'll look so.. yellow

wow this is what I get for not reading threads in my forum for a while :). Anyways, the H3's are indeed NOT in most Explorer fog lights (I checked my mom's 96 Explorer and it uses the 899), the bulbs are not compatible nor are they near compatible. ABout the only thing I could think of that might even possibly work is a PIAA 9005 bulb, but don't take my word on that, please. Here is a picture of an H3 bulb:

I don't have the picture of the 899 handy, I'll try to post it tonight possibly. Basically, they are completely different bulbs.
Quakecom, on a few of those lights, seriously don't buy the bull. A light which someone is selling for $9.99 and comparing to HID lights is, suprise, not going to be like a $750 lighting system. I highly encourage people to try things however, so I say get a set and see how they work. As for green lights, (item #532046645), I think any color other then white (the HID are NOT blue, but rather EXTREMELY white which gives a bluish hue), and you will start decreasing your visibility. The other colors (green, blue, I've even seen purple bulbs on ebay before) will absorb the colors around them and you won't be able to see as much. Which is why with a set of PIAA superwhites while the brightness itself doesn't increase tremendously (as Billy pointed out earlier), increase the amount of viewable objects within your light range. The bulbs that come with all vehicles will appear yellow after installing the superwhites and suprise, yellow is another color that is absorbed by objects around it and decrease what you can actually see in the beam...
Hope that helps.

ok, well, I'm working on it.. I'm getting my grille guard installed (should be done around lunch tomorrow) and I'll definatley take pictures, I'm also fixing to order some piaa 001 solitare plasma blue driving lights (35 watts) and some 9007 headlights, I'm still looking into the fog lights (PLEASE have the h3s!!! I neeed superwhite fogs)

but once I get all that done, I'll definatley post some pics ;)
