Dear All,

I have tried to search the forum for a definitive answer to the following but have been unsuccessful as threads that I have found refer in parallel to some sort of body lift:

I have a stock Ex. running stock suspension with stock rims (255/70/16 all round). As this appears to be a non-standard size; I wanted to know if it was possible to run other sizes that might be a tad more popular and afford greater choice of brands whilst keeping the Ex. stock?

Any thoughts or recommendations please?

You should be good to go to 265/70 or even 265/75

I'm sure going to either of those wouldn't be too big for the arches etc and would have the benefit of bringing the speedo to near correct. I think howard runs 275 but he is lifted.
Check out list avaiable here
These guys give good service.
There are also tyre comparison sites where you can put in the size you have and the desired size and it will tell you difference in % etc. There is even one somewhere that gives clearances for the suspension/wheel arch for stock suspension.

Both of those sizes will fit fine.

I did find that when I ran 265/75 that they took the edge off acceleration and most of the time you will be in a lower gear for any given roadspeed. I am back to 255/70 now and the driveability is much better. You shouldn't find much difference with 265/70 though.

Thanks for the input guys; I'm going to look at 265/70s and see what options comes up.

I did run some tyre substitution calculations on those tyre based websites, but I wasn't sure if the sizes I was inputting were practical for the Ex. as I didn't want to inadvertently put any additional stress in the suspension bushings and ball joints etc.

Many thanks.

That link i posted takes to to 265/70. Obviously there are other sites which include local fitting or black circles that come to you with a van but for price i usually find camskill can't be beaten. I do have a good relationship with a local tyre fitting place to get cheaper fitting tho :-)

Having said all that the 2 tyres i have on the front i got from ebay brand new with the stickers still on for £88 delivered for a pair of Bridgestones

I agree CamSkill are a great place to shop, not least for their prices but range of product available.

I have only ever used Michelin or Continental on all my vehicles and most times have been able to source tyres from Costco (especially as they run a 20% off promotion quite regularly) finding enough variance in their catalogues to buy the exact type of tyre I want.

But with the Ex. I'm not finding the variety I'm usually after. So knowing what other sizes I can use (thanks SS) I'm gong to try expand my search (including watching eBay).

Drive safe people these temperatures are starting to drop!

ok an idea for you if you put 15" rims on you can use 31/10.5x15 tyres 255/75x15 standard on a shogun/pajero 1mm diff in height so should not put ur gearing out at all hope this helps if not this is a handy tool to look at tyre sizes http://www.etyres.co.uk/tyre-size-calculator.htm regards Guy
