I am interested in picking up a generic code scanner for the dreaded "check engine" battle.

Do the generic scanners (i.e. Actron CP9035 $159.95) read the Ford and vehicle specific codes as well? I am assuming they do, as far as the device goes a code is a code is a code but I would just like to make sure.

Thanks,

John Olson

I don't have a specific answer. However, my understanding was the the code was the same but the car manufacture did not follow any guidelines on interfaces. The biggest problem is getting the connectors right.

We are buying Scan II tool stright from GM for close to 2 grand in my car club. Still not sure if it will interface with other car models or even differnt manufactors yet.

I also heard about several other vendors who cliam there software works and the prices was ballpark $200 or so. Check out http://www.obd-2.com, he may have a solution for you.

Good Luck in your quest.
