Question to all owners with big tires 32" +!! please read.

Well, after putting 33's or whatever tires you are running have you notice a huge decline in your breaks?


I thought I had bad rotors, and calipers so I changed both. My truck still will not stop at all. SOFT pedal yes I bleed the hell out of the breaks all 4. I took it to my uncle who owns his own shop and he has no idea! He is going to call a few of his Ford mechanic buddies to see if they have any idea! I am thinking I am going to replace the master cylinder, since it is only 50.00 at my uncles’ cost and see what this does. I was just wondering if it is just my truck, or if this has to do with the tires.

I also have no ABS what so ever. I can't even get the truck to lock them up on WET yes I said WET pavement any ideas? I believe between my uncle and his guys, and myself we have checked everything.

You were right when you said one thing after another. My brakes work just fine with the big tires. In the past they have worked just fine up until the last minute when I hit the warning part of the rotar and then I changed them put up until that all was good. It sounds like a pressure problem if the pedal is a sponge

I agree witht he pressure problem! i just have to find out why! like i siad i think i am going to put in a new master cylender and see what happens!

it is not a sponge, but it does go to the floor pretty easy with no peadle.

I tell ya a 98 Sport 65,000 miles and i have had it less then a year and have 3000.00 into it with Mods and Repairs!!!! S.O.B!

Well, at least after the last 3-4 months i have a lot of new things on my truck! Next on the list is the Shift motor i belive that lists at like 300 or so. Who knows what the instal is like, but we will know soon.

With the increase in tire size there should be a decrease in braking power. Now perhaps you already had a problem with your brakes, and it just became more noticeable with bigger tires. But realize that unless you upgrade your brakes, they will never be as good as they were with stock tires.

I've got a 2000 with 33's and I know I can't stop as fast as I used to, and I can't even get ABS to jump in even on soft dirt/sand, where with my 31's ABS would go crazy.

I hear what you are saying. I have had my 33's for like 4 months and this just now became noticeable. Now maybe it was there before, I just didn't realize it until now. I am getting the super lift computer that should fix the ABS problem. What this thing does it is splices into the speed sensor then sends a false signal to the computer. This way everything works fine. It costs like 200.00. Once I get it in I will let ya know how it works. I also an getting the ART rotors to see how that helps.

It sounds like the master cylinder to me or possibly rear brakes out of adjustment, hope this helps!
