question what do you call the switch

you know the switch thats in the dash that you push to engage 4 high and 4 low,what do you call that switch,I have a mazda navajo service manual and ford explorer manual and they both won't tell you the name of switch, because if you manually put the transfer case into 4 high turn on the key the light next to the 4 high button will light and the little 4 X 4 is on.If you manually put the transfer case into 4 low then turn the key on the light next to the 4 high button is on, not the light next to the 4 low button, the little 4 X 4 light is on too, is this normal or is the switch that I have bad, is there away to test the switch with a ohm meter or a continuty tester can some please tell the name of the switch so I can replace it
